Early life and career

Will Eisner was born in Brooklyn, New York, on March 6, 1917. He began drawing at an early age, and by the time he was in high school, he was already selling his cartoons to magazines. After graduating from high school, Eisner attended the Art Students League in New York City. He then worked as a commercial artist for several years before landing a job at DC Comics in 1939.

At DC Comics, Eisner worked on a variety of titles, including Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. He also created several new characters, including the Spirit. The Spirit was also notable for its political and social commentary. Eisner used the series to explore a variety of issues, including racism, poverty, and crime. He also used the series to promote his own political views, which were often left-wing and progressive.

Later career

Eisner left DC Comics in 1952 to start his own publishing company, Eisner & Iger. He continued to work on the Spirit series, and he also created several new titles, including A Contract with God and Life on Another Planet. Eisner's later work was often more experimental than his earlier work, and he explored a variety of different genres, including science fiction, fantasy, and horror.

Eisner died in 2005 at the age of 87. He is considered one of the most important figures in the history of comics. His work has inspired generations of cartoonists, and it continues to be read and enjoyed by people all over the world.
