The Marines Rapid Response Force (MRRF) is an elite unit within the United States Marine Corps. It is comprised of approximately 2,000 Marines who are specially trained and equipped to respond to crises anywhere in the world within hours. The MRRF is a key component of the Marine Corps' global response force, and it has been deployed to numerous combat operations, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

History

The MRRF was established in 1983 in response to the terrorist bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. The bombing killed 241 Marines and sailors, and it highlighted the need for a unit that could be deployed quickly to respond to terrorist threats. The MRRF was initially known as the Marine Amphibious Rapid Deployment Force, and it was tasked with providing security for U.S. embassies and other diplomatic facilities around the world.

In 1990, the MRRF was renamed the Marine Rapid Response Force. It was also given a new mission: to conduct combat operations in support of U.S. national interests. The MRRF has since been deployed to numerous combat operations, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Training

The Marines who serve in the MRRF are some of the most highly trained and experienced in the Marine Corps.
