Malala was born in Mingora, Pakistan, on July 12, 1997. Her father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, was a schoolteacher and an activist for education. Malala's mother, Toor Pekai Yousafzai, was a housewife. Malala has two younger brothers, Atal and Khushal.
Malala began speaking out for the education of girls when she was just 11 years old. She wrote a blog for the BBC Urdu service, in which she chronicled her life under Taliban rule and her desire to go to school. Malala's blog quickly gained attention, and she became a target of the Taliban.
On October 9, 2012, Malala was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman. She was airlifted to a hospital in the United Kingdom, where she underwent surgery. Malala survived the attack, but she was left with a bullet wound to the head and a paralyzed left side of her face.
After recovering from her injuries, Malala continued to speak out for the education of girls. She founded the Malala Fund, which provides support to girls' education programs around the world. Malala also spoke at the United Nations, where she called for world leaders to invest in education for all children.
In 2014, Malala was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her work. She is the youngest person to ever receive the award.
Malala's story is one of courage, determination, and hope. She has shown the world that even a single person can make a difference. Malala is an inspiration to us all, and her story is one that will continue to be told for generations to come.
