John Lewis is a civil rights leader and U.S. Representative for Georgia's 5th congressional district. He is a founding member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and has been a tireless advocate for the rights of all Americans.

Michael D'Orso is a writer and editor who has worked with John Lewis for over 20 years. He is the co-author of Lewis's previous books, Walking with the Wind and Across That Bridge.
