The Yom Kippur War

The Yom Kippur War broke out in 1973, and Epstein was once again called to action. He flew numerous combat missions during the war, and shot down several enemy aircraft. However, on October 14, 1973, Epstein's aircraft was shot down over the Sinai Peninsula. He was captured by Egyptian forces and held as a prisoner of war for nine months.

A Hero's Return

Epstein was released from captivity in 1974, and he returned to Israel a national hero. He continued to serve in the Israel Air Force until 1980, when he retired with the rank of brigadier general.

Since his retirement, Epstein has written several books about his experiences in the Israel Air Force. He has also lectured extensively on the importance of air power and the role of the Israel Air Force in the defense of Israel.
