The Early Years

The team was founded in 1929 in the small town of Martinsville, Indiana. The team was originally called the Martinsville Pacers. The team was made up of a group of young men who had all played basketball in high school. The team was led by John Wooden, who was a young coach who had just graduated from Purdue University.

The team's early years were spent playing against local teams in Indiana. The team quickly developed a reputation for being a tough and competitive team. In 1932, the team won the Indiana state championship. The team's success led to them being invited to play in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT). The NIT was a prestigious tournament that was held in New York City. The Pacers lost in the first round of the tournament, but their performance impressed many people.

The Barnstorming Years

After the NIT, the Pacers began to barnstorm their way across the country. The team played games against some of the best teams in the country, including the New York Celtics, the Philadelphia Warriors, and the Chicago Bulls. The Pacers won most of their games and along the way, they inspired a generation of basketball players.

The Pacers were known for their fast-paced, high-scoring style of play. The team was led by Wooden, who was a master strategist. Wooden was also a great motivator and he was able to get his players to play their best. The Pacers were a very popular team and they often played to sold-out crowds.

The Legacy of the Pacers

The Pacers barnstorming years came to an end in 1941 when the United States entered World War II. Many of the Pacers players went off to fight in the war. After the war, the Pacers never regained their former glory. The team folded in 1951. However, the legacy of the Pacers lives on. The team inspired a generation of basketball players and they helped to popularize the game of basketball in the United States.

John Wooden

John Wooden is considered to be one of the greatest basketball coaches of all time. He coached the UCLA Bruins to 10 national championships. Wooden was a master strategist and he was able to get his players to play their best. He was also a great motivator and he was able to inspire his players to achieve great things.

Wooden was born in 1910 in Martinsville, Indiana. He played basketball at Purdue University and he was a member of the 1932 Olympic team. After graduating from Purdue, Wooden began his coaching career at Martinsville High School. He coached the Pacers for three seasons before moving on to UCLA.

Wooden coached at UCLA for 27 seasons. He won 10 national championships and he was named the National Coach of the Year seven times. Wooden retired from coaching in 1975. He died in 2010 at the age of 99.

The Pacers Today

The Pacers are still remembered today as one of the greatest basketball teams of all time. The team's legacy lives on in the John Wooden Classic, which is an annual college basketball tournament that is held in Indianapolis. The Pacers are also remembered in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

The Pacers were a special team that inspired a generation of basketball players. The team's legacy lives on today and they are still remembered as one of the greatest basketball teams of all time.
